Meeting the crew!!

Signing onto the group volunteering/travel course meant I was going to know anyone, and unbeknownst to me, the vast majority - and by this I mean everyone but me - is from America. Seeing the list of people attending, from California, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, alabama etc. was daunting but I can honestly say I have found them to be the most friendly group of people I have met in a LONG time!An early wake up due to jet lag at 6, saw me have time to organise my belongings before meeting at a different YHA hostel at 9.The rest of the group were there, fresh off their flight that arrived, and all bar one missing bag were set and ready to go.A quick refuel brunch for everyone and time to freshen up then rolled on into a group briefing. After rules of the trip, we got into more details about what the events and volunteer work for DOC (Department of conservation) may entail, as well as a few team games to loosen us all up and I felt much more comfortable already, A brief lunch break for buying a few snacks, and a quick wander for the others to familiarise themselves with Auckland was then followed by a quick drive to local Bastion point to look back on Auckland, a whistle stop tour to a nearby beach for a quick look.Jetlag began to get to most people by this point so heading back the city was the plan.4 of us hopped out, had a look around town (bought provisions - to cover lost luggage) and picked up a churro to eat sitting people watching in Aotea square.Back to the hostel to help whip up a stir fry and everyone was soon ready for bed! All in all however a fab first day together!
